On day two of my four day quest this week I decided to switch up my workout a bit and try some things that my trainer mentioned to me a couple of weeks back. Since I had a big workout yesterday and I have a big training session with my boy Ryan tomorrow I didn't want to go to crazy today. If you look on most cardio machines it shows you that low intensity is for burning fat and high intensity is for cardio. What I am looking to do is train my body to burn fat even at the higher intensities. What I did(and you can do this with any type of cardio) is use a giant rope, like the one you used to climb in gym class, hooked around a weighted base. You grab each end of the rope in each hand and move it up and down as quickly as possible. I did this as hard and as fast as I could for 30 seconds. This immediately jacked up my heart rate. I then waited, continually testing my heart rate(using Instant Heart Rate Monitor) on my Android phone, until I was back to my resting heart rate. I then repeated the 30 seconds again. I continued this heart rate cycle until I had done the exercise 5 times and couldn't no longer even keep the rope moving for 30 seconds. I'm going to be trying to do this at least once a week to continually train my body to try and burn fat at a higher heart rate. After this was done I still had some energy(in my legs or so I thought) so I jumped on the ellipitical. After about 10 mins I was exhausted and knew my day was done.
Since I switched up the workout I went with an old favorite for the music. Today I listened to the Belgium(are we sensing a pattern here?) duo, Spirit Catcher, which consists of Jean Vanesse and Thomas Sohet. Ever since this Live set, recorded at Smart Bar in Chicago in June of 2010, was released it has been a staple in my collection of workout mixes.
LIVE AT SMART BAR - CHICAGO - JUNE 2010 by SPIRIT CATCHER
This live set is high energy from the start and I would love to meet the person that doesn't immediately start dancing around like a maniac when these guys drop the beat to Thriller(yes that Thriller) in the middle of this set. Wonderful DJs/producers these are two guys you will serisously want to keep an eye on as everything they touch turns to techno gold.
Enjoy the tunes and keep your energy HIGH!
