First workout of the new year...

...and in over a week!  I can't believe it has been that long since I have been to the gym.  My body really starts to let me know once I haven't been to the gym for a while.  My knees start to ache and I just get generally sore all over.  When I don't go to the gym that means I don't end up stretching which I think really effects the way I feel.  I was trying to have my first day back be yesterday but that fell by the wayside in lieu of an increased work schedule for the new year.  I'm firing up all engines in 2012 and I WILL reach my goals.  I hope everyone had a very enjoyable holiday and I was so happy to see so many good friends and of course my amazing family.  I couldn't do any of this without all your love and support and I truly appreciate it.

Since I haven't worked out in over a week I wasn't trying to kill it today(not that my knees would let me).  I first did some really good stretching then hopped on the elliptical for my standard 10 min warm-up.  After that I tested all my exercises and(surprise, surprise) bent over row tested the best.  I did 3 sets with a 20kg kettlebell.  The next best testing exercise today was chest press but I really wasn't feeling that today so I thought to myself, my first workout of the year wouldn't be complete unless I made a trip to the infamous Captain's Chair.  I did another 3 sets here and then eventually finished up the workout with 3 sets of calf raises on the 40 degree sled. Ankles were feeling good today but the knees had had enough by this point so I did some more good stretching and headed home in the blistering cold.

Lucky for me I had some great tunes to keep my heart warm and pumping.  Today's mix came from our good old friends Spencer and Bethany Lokken of Orchard Lounge.  It was such a treat to see these guys perform live a couple times over the last week and it was also just fantastic to see their smiling faces.  I love you guys and love what you do.  Keep it up!  I don't think there is a cooler husband/wife team on the planet than you two.  This mix was just released today so jump on it and feel the energy!!
